I know a very lovely young lady whose care I am occasionally entrusted with. I have been watching her on and off since she was about sixteen months old, before she was talking intelligibly. She has always been a very bright child and has a wonderful sense of humour.
A few months back, she looked at me when I arrived at her home to watch her, and started laughing uproariously. I asked her what was so funny (as usually when she gets into fits of laughter the most fantastical stories follow in explanation), but this time she said my name over and over again breathlessly. "Miss Kate, Miss Kate!" she said, "Miss Kate, I thought your name was Miss Cake!"
And all along I had thought this was the product of a child's unaccustomed tongue...but no, she thought I was named after a confection. She still calls me Miss Cake, saying, "Miss Cake should make me cupcakes and tea! I like Miss Cake!"
So I've named this blog for her - she of many other stories soon to come.
